Conway Point, Birkenhead
Case Study
Laying the Groundwork
Having successfully delivered multiple projects for the Sovini Group, AAC Flat Roofing was once again appointed to complete the flat roofing works for their Conway Point development in Birkenhead.
Successful projects begin with a solid foundation of preparation. For Conway Point, we started by:
- Designing an insulation scheme to achieve the target thermal performance.
- Developing a site-specific health and safety plan to meet both HSE and client standards, with special attention paid to the mansard and dormer works.
- Performing windload calculations to ensure the right balance and type of fixings across the roof.
Collaboration That Made the Difference
Our long-standing relationship with the Sovini Group meant we could collaborate effectively from the outset, aligning the roofing solution with both aesthetic and performance goals.
Working closely with the client and main contractor, we designed a roof system that met durability and efficiency requirements and delivered a visually striking finish for areas visible from street level.
Scope of Works
- Installation of a full warm roof build-up, including VCL, insulation, and a mechanically fixed Protan SE membrane.
- Roofing over 1,200 m² across 3 roofs and the mansard area.
- Drop-down gutters along all perimeters.
- Installation of a Protan PVC membrane with standing seam detailing for a premium aesthetic finish.
Overcoming Challenges
As a new-build development in a busy urban setting, the project required careful planning, sequencing, and coordination with other trades. The key considerations included:
- Maintaining tight construction schedules to align with overall project timelines.
- Managing site logistics for deliveries and material storage.
- Ensuring the visible roof areas achieved an exceptional standard of finish.
By working proactively with the main contractor and maintaining consistent communication, we ensured progress remained steady throughout the build.
How We Delivered
Our team of experienced and highly trained installers executed the works with precision and efficiency, maintaining quality across all phases of the project.
Key aspects of our delivery included:
- A Protan full warm roof system was installed, ensuring durability and compliance.
- Attention to detail on standing seam sections to achieve a clean, consistent appearance.
- Electronic integrity testing and independent verification by the membrane manufacturer prior to handover.
This combination of technical accuracy and aesthetic focus ensured the project met all client expectations.
The Outcome
- 20-year manufacturer and AAC-backed warranty providing peace of mind.
- Full inspection and approval by the manufacturer.
- Compliance with Building Regulations Part L.
- A modern, low-maintenance roofing system designed for long-term durability.
As further recognition of the quality achieved, Conway Point was nominated for the “Best Detailing” award at the Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) Annual Awards. AAC Flat Roofing is proud to have supported the Sovini Group in creating another high-quality residential development for the Birkenhead community.
